Your first 5 minutes with Moairgead

   Import a recent statement

   Open Import and drop in a CSV, Excel or PDF from your bank. The browser parses it — nothing is uploaded.

   Review the categorisation

   Moairgead auto-tags merchants. Open Transactions and re-categorise anything that looks off; future imports learn from your edits.

   Set monthly envelopes

   Go to Envelopes and give your main spending categories a monthly budget (groceries, transport, eating out, etc.).

   Pin subscriptions

   Subscriptions auto-detects recurring charges. Confirm the real ones so they're factored into safe-to-spend and the forecast.

   Start a savings goal

   Create a Goal with a target amount and date. Moairgead tracks progress and sweeps a portion of surplus toward it each month.

   Check the forecast

   The Forecast page projects 12 months ahead based on your income, spending and upcoming subs.

Supported file types

• CSV — the most reliable. Almost every bank can export this; parsing is instant.
• Excel (.xlsx / .xls) — multi-sheet workbooks supported; pick which sheet to import.
• PDF — statements read with on-device text extraction. Scanned PDFs may fall back to AI.
• Receipt photos (JPG / PNG) — analysed with AI to extract merchant, date and amount.

Step-by-step

1. 1.Export the statement from your bank. Most apps have a 'Statement', 'Activity' or 'Transactions' export option.
2. 2.Open Moairgead's Import page and drop the file onto the upload area (or click to browse).
3. 3.Set the account details — bank name, card type and last 4 digits. Moairgead uses these to link future imports automatically.
4. 4.Review the preview. Edit any merchant names or categories that look wrong.
5. 5.Click Import. Transactions appear immediately on the dashboard and in Transactions.

Duplicate detection

Every imported file is hashed. Re-importing the same file is a no-op. If you import an overlapping range (e.g. last month again with a wider date), Moairgead de-duplicates on date + amount + merchant within the same account.

Fixing mis-categorised transactions

Open Transactions, click the row, and change the category inline. Moairgead remembers merchant → category mappings for next time.

Multi-currency

Statements in a non-home currency are converted using the closest historical FX rate. You'll see both original and converted amounts on the row.

Troubleshooting

• CSV columns not recognised — open the file in a spreadsheet app and make sure there's a header row with Date, Description and Amount columns, then re-export.
• PDF parsed but rows are missing — scanned PDFs are unreliable; ask your bank for a text-based statement, or export CSV.
• Wrong currency — set your home currency in Settings before importing.
• Want to start over — Settings → Imported files lets you remove a file and every transaction from it in one click.
